In the temporarily occupied Mariupol, the Russian military is dismantling a memorial to servicemen in order to erect a monument to Alexander Nevsky on horseback.

It is reported by the Mariupol City Council.
“Right now in Mariupol, the occupiers are dismantling a memorial to the soldiers from among the Mariupol who died defending Ukraine. As the occupiers themselves say, they want to erect a monument to Alexander Nevsky on horseback at the place of the memorial. Why exactly he is unknown, because this character has nothing to do with Mariupol, ”the message says.
The city council recalled that this memorial has become an important component of the renovated Freedom Square. It was made of granite in the shape of the Ukrainian coat of arms, over which water flows as a symbol of shed tears. Water washes bronze oak leaves, each of which bears the name of a fallen hero.

The adviser to the mayor of Marupol, Petr Andryushchenko, also reacted to the dismantling of the memorial.
“After Yelenovka, the invaders take revenge and destroy even the memory of our Defenders. This is what horror looks like. You'll soon see what retribution looks like. Everyone who touches the Memorial will be punished. Each. Rage. Just rage,” he wrote.
