In the de-occupied Kharkiv region in the city of Izyum, the exhumation of bodies began at mass grave locations.

This was reported by the Ministry for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine.

"In the city of Izyum, Kharkiv region, as part of an operation to search for the dead, led by the Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances, Oleg Kotenko, the exhumation of bodies began at mass grave locations," the message says.

According to Kotenko, they discovered one of the locations from a video that the Russians posted for free access.

The area was cleared for safe exhumation, as the potential for mine hazards remained high.

"Currently we are working on the exhumation of the bodies of military personnel. Then the bodies will be handed over to experts for subsequent identification of the faces of the dead.. Unfortunately, this is only the beginning of our work here, how many locations will still be found in the de-occupied territories is not yet known, but the harsh reality indicates that the number of deaths in Izyum may be several times higher than the Buchanskaya tragedy," Kotenko said.

At the same time, according to the head of the National Police Igor Klymenko, in just a week, the bodies of about 50 dead civilians were found in the de-occupied territory of the Kharkiv region. At the same time, he stressed that this figure does not include mass graves, from where the bodies have not yet been exhumed. The nature of the injuries and the cause of death must be established by experts, but this is not a one-week job, Klymenko says.
