SBU announced "counterintelligence measures" in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra

The Security Service of Ukraine said it was conducting counterintelligence security measures on the territory of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra in Kyiv.

This was reported by the press service of the SBU.
"These events are being held jointly with the National Police and the National Guard as part of the systematic work of the SBU to counter the subversive activities of the Russian special services in Ukraine," the report says.
The service noted that, taking into account the armed aggression of the Russian Federation, the risk of terrorist acts, sabotage, hostage-taking increases, especially in crowded places.. Therefore, these activities are carried out for:
  • preventing the Lavra from being used as a cell of the "Russian world";
  • verification of data on the use of the premises of the UOC for harboring sabotage and reconnaissance groups, foreign citizens, storing weapons, etc.;
  • protect the population from provocations and terrorist acts
The SBU noted that with the direct participation of representatives of the church, law enforcement officers conduct an inspection of the territory and premises of the Lavra to identify objects prohibited for circulation and check persons on the territory of the Lavra regarding their involvement in illegal activities to the detriment of the state sovereignty of Ukraine.
"All actions take place within the framework of the current legislation. We note that in its activities the SBU observes the principle of impartiality to the activities of any religious denomination and respects the right of every citizen to freedom of worldview and religion, as defined by the Constitution of Ukraine," the press service of the SBU stressed.
