In the Sumy region, the SBU detained a Russian agent who scouted information about the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This was announced by the speaker of the SBU Artem Dekhtyarenko.

According to the investigation, a 44-year-old resident of the Shostka district reconnoitered the border fortifications in the Sumy region and collected intelligence on the deployment, movement and armament of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

The aggressor used the information received to plan sabotage and targeted shelling of the border area, the SBU notes.

Counterintelligence officers established that the Ukrainian businessman was recruited by a representative of the Russian special services when he traveled to Russia for commercial purposes.

The attacker agreed to cooperate with the enemy because of his pro-Russian beliefs, the intelligence service points out.

After the large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, on the instructions of the curator, the agent began to systematically inform the enemy.

While collecting intelligence, he photographed military installations and locations of the Ukrainian defense forces.. The files were handed over to the curator with reference to the area, using specially created electronic communication channels.

According to information available to the SBU, in the future they planned to involve him in sabotage.

The detainee was announced on suspicion of high treason committed under martial law. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint in the form of detention is being decided.
