For the first time since the start of the Russian invasion, Volodymyr Zelensky held telephone conversations with Moldovan leader Maia Sandu.
He announced this on Twitter.
As you know, the position of Chisinau after the Russian invasion caused indignation in Kyiv, since Moldova immediately announced that it would not impose economic sanctions against Russia.
However, Moldova has introduced all the main bans, it just did it unofficially, avoiding being included in the Russian list of "unfriendly states".
Another controversial issue in relations between the two countries was the supply of weapons.
According to the EP, in the early days of the Russian invasion, the Ukrainian leadership approached the Moldovan government with a request to sell Soviet MiG-29 fighters, but was refused with the explanation that Chisinau did not want to irritate Russia.
Sandu subsequently stated that Moldova does not have modern weapons to provide military assistance to Ukraine, and also cannot do this according to its constitution.
In early June, it became known that the Ukrainian An-26 aircraft arrived from Uzhgorod to Moldova and allegedly took away spare parts for MiG-29 fighters. Moldova said that the plane made a technical flight and did not take on board any military equipment.
