The militants of the "LPR" sentenced Dmitry Shabanov, an employee of the OSCE mission, to 13 years in prison, whom the separatists accused of "treason".

He was detained in April, accused of passing information to American intelligence agencies.

The non-republic claims that in 2016 Shabanov was recruited by former SBU officer and CIA resident Andrei Lukashenko. From August 2021 to April 2022, Shabanov collected “information on the movement of military equipment, as well as units of the Luhansk People’s Army” and “sent it to a CIA agent”. To do this, he used "specialized software" provided by the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (OSCE SMM).
“OSCE Chairperson, Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau and OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid unequivocally condemned the so-called ‘trials’ initiated against two local members of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) and the continued detention of another local member Missions,” the organization said in a statement.
The heads of the organization again called for the immediate release of their employees. They also appealed to all OSCE participating States with a request to increase pressure on those responsible for their detention.

Shabanov and another OSCE SMM officer were detained in April after "LPR head" Leonid Pasechnik banned her activities in the republic. He noted that "in eight years, she has never contributed to the settlement of the conflict in Donbass."

In the same month, the work of the OSCE was decided to be banned in the "DNR". They said that several representatives of the mission violated local laws, one of them was detained.
