Turkey releases ship with stolen Ukrainian grain, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry summons Turkish ambassador

15:29 07 July Kyiv, Ukraine

The Russian-leased ship Zhibek Zholy, carrying stolen grain from Berdyansk, left the Turkish port of Karasu.

This was announced by the Ukrainian diplomat Oleg Nikolenko.
"Ignoring the appeal of the Ukrainian side, on the evening of July 6, the ship was released," the Foreign Ministry said.. The agency stated that, together with international partners, it condemns the criminal actions of the Russian Federation for the abduction and export of grain from Ukrainian territory to foreign countries.
According to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ship was detained and could not be unloaded.. Ukraine asked Turkey to arrest the ship, but it was released last night, despite the fact that the Turkish side was presented with evidence of a criminal case on the illegal export of grain.

Now Ukraine demands investigation and prevention of similar cases in the future.
"In connection with the unacceptable situation that has developed, the Turkish Ambassador to Kiev has been invited to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry," the Foreign Ministry said.
A few weeks ago, Turkish head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu noted that Turkey takes reports of Russia's illegal export of grain from Ukraine seriously. He assured that the country would not be allowed to import such grain. .
