During a visit to Italy, Prime Minister Denys Shmygal met with Pope Francis, presented him with a photo album about the crimes of the Russian Federation in Ukraine and called on the Vatican to join the implementation of the Ukrainian "peace formula".
"In the Vatican, I met with His Holiness, Pope Francis. He told how Ukrainians every day are forced to fight for their lives in the war unleashed by Russia," he wrote in Telegram.
The prime minister stressed that Ukraine appreciates the efforts of the Holy See aimed at ending the war. He believes that the best way to peace is the formula of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"We hope that the Vatican will join its implementation, in particular, the process of returning prisoners and deportees, restoring justice and fixing the end of the war," Shmygal said.
The head of government handed over to Pope Francis a photo album about Russia's crimes in Bucha, Borodyanka and other cities of Ukraine.
"This album clearly demonstrates the hatred and cruelty of the aggressor, which he brought to Ukrainian lands," he said.
Shmygal thanked the Pope for humanitarian assistance, as well as for the treatment of Ukrainian children who suffered from Russian aggression in the Vatican hospital.
"Invited Pope Francis to Ukraine. We will be glad to welcome the pontiff in this difficult time. We hope that the Holy See will use its influence to restore peace to all our lands," the prime minister said.
