The security service eliminated an attempted sabotage at railway infrastructure facilities in southern Ukraine. An agent of the GRU of the Russian Federation was detained in the Odessa region, the special service reports on Tuesday, November 1.

Among the confiscated from the attacker are more than 3 kilos of TNT, an anti-tank mine and fuses.

It was established that the attacker collected intelligence on the transportation of military equipment, weapons, ammunition, fuel and lubricants on certain sections of the Odessa railway. He planned to transfer this data to the military intelligence of the Russian Federation for the preparation of explosions on the main logistics routes of the Defense Forces in the southern direction.

To accomplish this task, the man installed two remote camera traps near the railway track in the suburbs of Odessa. These special devices allowed him to track the movement of rolling stock in real time and receive relevant photos through a mobile application.

For conspiracy, the Russian agent constantly changed his appearance and channels of communication with his Russian curator. He also used documents issued to nominees, in particular, the passport of a citizen of Ukraine.
"However, it didn't help him.. Employees of the SBU timely located the attacker, documented the criminal actions and detained him while setting up a remote monitoring device along the railway route.
During the detention, a TNT bomb weighing 200 g and another camera trap were found on the enemy saboteur.

In addition, in the course of further investigative actions, law enforcement officers seized from the cache previously prepared by the attacker: 11 TNT checkers and a TM-62 mine with detonators.

According to the investigation, the former official of one of the regional police departments in Odessa turned out to be an enemy henchman.. After the start of a full-scale invasion, he was recruited by a representative of the GRU of the Russian Federation to carry out reconnaissance and subversive activities in the region.

At present, the detainee was informed about the suspicion of treason and illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives (part 2 of article 111, part 1 of article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The issue of additional qualification of his criminal actions under the article on sabotage (Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) is also being resolved.
