Ukrainian Foreign Ministry calls on the Russian Federation not to interfere with the IAEA mission

16:31 31 August Kyiv, Ukraine

The occupying troops of the Russian Federation must stop shelling the corridors of the IAEA delegation and not interfere with its activities at the station.

This was stated by the speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Nikolenko.

"This is an important mission, and we are doing everything to make it safe and efficient," he said.

According to Nikolenko, the IAEA mission is now on its way to the Zaporizhzhya NPP, experts must record violations of nuclear and radiation safety standards and norms at the ZNPP against the backdrop of Russian occupation.

"The position of Ukraine remains unchanged: the nuclear power plant must be immediately demilitarized, de-occupied and transferred under the full control of the Ukrainian government," Nikolenko said.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman recalled that Russian troops have been illegally stationed on the territory of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe for almost six months.

"The seven fundamental principles for the peaceful use of nuclear technology and nuclear energy have been flagrantly violated. The world is on the verge of a new man-made environmental and humanitarian catastrophe due to Russia's aggression against Ukraine and the ongoing irresponsible actions of the Russian occupiers," he said.

According to Nikolenko, the international community should increase pressure on the Russian Federation until the complete demilitarization and de-occupation of the nuclear power plant and its return under the control of Ukraine.
