Ukraine will have a register of psychologists trained to work with abused children. Specialists who will be included in the Register of Psychologists will help law enforcement agencies effectively investigate crimes against children.

This is reported by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

The launch of the Register, according to the plans of the National Strategy for the Reform of the Justice System for Children, should have been until 2023. However, due to the war in Ukraine, they decided to speed up the launch.
“Reports of children affected by war crimes are on the rise. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that psychologists have access to investigative actions throughout the country, both offline and online, in order to provide children with the necessary support and assistance, as well as make justice child-friendly and minimize the risk of re-traumatization.
As the Ministry of Justice notes, their goal is to make the process less traumatic for the child and as effective as possible so that his rights are protected and the perpetrators are held accountable.

The Register will select psychologists with a higher psychological education, experience working with children, high readiness and motivation to join such activities.

The creation of the Register is a joint initiative of the Interdepartmental Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the National Police of Ukraine, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the Coordinating Center for the provision of free legal aid and civil society Volunteer Center.
