Government appoints Commissioner for ECtHR affairs

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has appointed a new Commissioner for the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) Margarita Sokorenko.

This is reported by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

Prior to that, she was Deputy Director of the Department - Head of the Department of State Representation for Interstate Affairs in the Secretariat of the Commissioner for ECtHR Affairs.

The previous ECtHR Commissioner was fired almost a year ago.

Recall that from today the European Court of Human Rights in certain aspects of the work returns to the usual order with complaints about Ukraine. From September 1, the ECHR promised to resume correspondence with the applicants, "as far as possible." Applicants can find general information on the website of the court.

In addition, cases will be resumed and cases already pending will be subject to new time limits, taking into account, to the extent possible, the parties' ability to respond effectively.
