As part of the NATO mission, Spain has extended the deployment of its Patriot air defense system to Turkey until June 2023.

It is reported by Hurriyet.

The Spanish Ministry of Defense notified Turkey of its decision on November 13. Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar called his Spanish counterpart Margherita Robles and thanked her for extending the Patriot deployment.

In 2015, Spain deployed its Patriot air defense system to the southern province of Adana to protect Turkish airspace.

Earlier, Germany, the United States and the Netherlands also deployed Patriot systems in Turkey, but they were later withdrawn.

Currently, Spain is the only NATO country that continues to deploy its air defense systems on Turkish soil.

In 2012, Ankara demanded that NATO deploy air defense systems to repel Syrian missile attacks.
