The Russian Federation has requested 56 visas from the United States for the Russian Foreign Ministry, in particular for Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his delegation. They intended to go to New York for the annual meeting of world leaders at the UN, but did not receive a single visa.. On Friday, September 2, reports Reuters.

Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzia reacted to this, saying in a letter to UN Secretary General António Guterres that this was "alarming" because over the past few months Washington has "constantly denied entry visas" to a number of Russian citizens, delegates to other UN activities.

A State Department spokesman told the agency that the United States takes its obligations as a UN host country seriously and noted that "applications should be submitted as early as possible to ensure timely processing."

According to him, this is especially important because of the unjustified actions of the Russian Federation against the US embassy in Russia, including the forced dismissal of diplomats in Moscow.

A State Department spokesman noted that Russia "has severely limited the staff of the US embassy and therefore limited the ability to process visas."

Recall that the head of the Ukrainian government called for a general European "visa ban" for all Russians.
