The Uzbek authorities have removed restrictions on the work of social networks Twitter, Vkontakte and WeChat messenger, which have been blocked since last summer. Access to TikTok has not yet been restored.
“From today on the territory of our country, unhindered access to the social networks Twitter, WeChat and Vkontakte is fully resumed,” the press service of the Agency for Information and Mass Communications under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.
The Agency for Information and Mass Communications added that "negotiations are ongoing with the TikTok platform, the results will be announced later."

The press secretary of the head of state, Sherzod Asadov, noted that attempts to isolate the information space and impede the pluralism of opinions do not serve the progress of society, but, on the contrary, hold it back - an indisputable fact.

The state inspection Uzkomnazorat (Uzkomnadzor) last summer restricted access to Twitter, TikTok, VKontakte, as well as WeChat and the Skype messenger for violating the law “On Personal Data”. According to the law, foreign companies must place servers that process personal data of citizens of Uzbekistan within the country. An amendment to this effect was signed by the President in January last year. It came into effect from mid-April of that year.
