According to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Turkey closed the airspace for Armenian aircraft in response to the opening of a monument to terrorists, which caused discontent in Turkey.
He stressed that this is an unacceptable provocation and that Armenia cannot go unpunished. In response to this gesture from Armenia, Turkey closed its skies to all Armenian airlines, including planes carrying VIP passengers, with the exception of the visit of the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament to an international event in Turkey.
The Turkish Foreign Minister recalled that after the Second Karabakh War, steps were taken to normalize relations between Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
However, the opening of a monument to terrorists who killed Turkish citizens and brothers in Azerbaijan led to an aggravation of the situation between Turkey and Armenia.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry considers the excuses of the Armenian side that the monument was erected by municipal structures, erroneous and insincere. If Armenia continues such actions, Türkiye may take new measures.
