G7 leaders agree to ban gold imports from Russia - media

The 48th summit of the leaders of the G7 (Big Seven) countries began in the Bavarian castle of Elmau in Germany. It is noted that it will be held from Sunday 26 June to Tuesday 28 June.

In addition to the leaders of the United States, Great Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Italy, the summit will be attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel. President Volodymyr Zelensky will also speak at the summit.

On the eve of the leaders of the G7 countries agreed to a ban on the import of gold from Russia. This is reported by Reuters, citing sources, as well as CNN correspondent Caitlin Collins.

The US Treasury is reportedly due to announce the official decision of the US government on the embargo on June 28.

Earlier it was reported that gold could be included in the new package of sanctions against Russia.

The media also wrote that the United States is preparing a bill to freeze Russia's gold reserves.
