US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said at a conference of member countries of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons that the DPRK is preparing to conduct a new nuclear test.
"North Korea continues to expand its illegal nuclear program and its provocations against the region. We meet today as Pyongyang prepares to conduct its seventh nuclear test," Blinken said.
The United States is in very close contact with close allies and partners, starting with the Republic of Korea and Japan, and others, to be ready for any scenario.
"North Korea's nuclear tests will be 'dangerous and destabilizing' for the region, and the United States is calling for abandoning these plans, " Blinken said.
Denouncing Pyongyang's intentions to test nuclear weapons, Blinken said the US could only consider using nuclear weapons in emergency circumstances to protect its vital interests, the agency reported.
