On Wednesday, August 3, the US Senate voted in favor of NATO expansion. America approved the entry of Finland and Sweden into the alliance.

The US Senate passed a resolution on the ratification of the protocols on the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO. Voting is still ongoing, but the document has already received a sufficient number of votes for its approval.

In accordance with American law, the ratification procedure is carried out by the President, and the Senate gives its consent to this.. Now the head of state, Joe Biden, will have to sign the relevant documents on the entry of Stockholm and Helsinki into NATO and send them to the alliance.

The accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO must be ratified by all member countries of the alliance. To date, more than 20 of the 30 NATO countries have done so.

Recall that Finland and Sweden applied for NATO membership after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. However, the countries faced resistance from Turkey , which accused them of "supporting terrorist groups".

Turkey later agreed to unblock Finland and Sweden from joining NATO.. The office of Turkish leader Racep Tayyip Erdogan said that the parties agreed to cooperate in the fight against the Kurdistan Workers' Party.

For Russia, this is not just a "click on diarrhea", it is a serious political blow "in the gut."
