Undoubtedly positive news is the decision to grant Ukraine the status of an EU candidate. There was little hope that the "fast track" initiative to become a full member would work, but it still requires full compliance with strict criteria, which the war-torn country, understandably, will not be able to provide for a long time.
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama advised the people of Ukraine not to be under any illusions, because his country has been a candidate for nine years, and this is far from a record. Take, for example, Turkey, which has been striving for the EU for decades and has not moved a single step.
Be that as it may, but the direction of the future development of Ukraine is determined and this is Europe. And what happens to the other part of the problem - the isolation of Russia, which was proclaimed by many leaders, including the United States?
Two recent events, the Summit of the Americas, which took place from June 6 to 10, and the BRICS Summit, which either passed or is still underway, will help answer this question, it is not important, you need to pay attention to the participating countries and the level of representation.
Los Angeles missed the heads of Mexico and Bolivia, who decided to boycott the summit in response to the refusal of the United States to invite representatives of Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua. “There can be no Summit of the Americas if all the countries of the American continent do not participate in it” - this is how Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador argued his position. Almost the same thing was said by the President of Bolivia, Luis Arce.
Given that Mexico is not the last country in Latin America, and one of the goals of the summit was to demonstrate the lack of support for Russia by Latin American countries, the effect turned out to be just the opposite.
Argentine President Alberto Fernandez came to the summit, but it would be better not to come. In his speech, he lashed out at the United States for depriving the representatives of Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua of the right to participate, gave a powerful rebuke to the United States for the long-term blockade of Cuba and Venezuela, and convicted the administration of the previous President Donald Trump of conducting an extremely harmful policy for the region.
Fernandez did not bypass Ukraine either, in his opinion, it is urgent to start negotiations, since the “military catastrophe” has a huge impact on the region, but for now, Latin American countries need to take advantage of the situation and fill the market with food of their own production.
Regarding the BRICS, an article was published in The Wall Street Journal , where the conclusion is drawn by Manjari Chatterjee Miller, a senior fellow at the New York Council on Foreign Relations, who believes that “Having a BRICS summit with Russia shows that Putin is not an outcast for everyone ".
The summit was attended by the presidents of China, India, Brazil and South Africa, which clearly showed the collapse of plans to isolate Moscow.
Putin's presence clearly demonstrates the presence of strategic interests in Russia for various countries of the world and the lack of intentions to support the economic boycott of the West. The BRICS format represents four of the 10 most populous countries in the world, as well as four of the 15 largest economies, such facts are hard to ignore, agree. Even now, China and India are easily leveling the West's refusal to buy Russian oil and gas, almost nullifying the possible damage to the Russian economy, but maintaining a powerful negative impact on the industry of Western countries.
